Users get creative with Wikipedia page of USA-Slovenia referee

Jun 18, 2010
World Cup referee Koman Coulibaly is a household name all of a sudden.

Shortly after the USA's Group C tie against Slovenia, Coulibaly's Wikipedia entry was vandalized. You can view a screen-grab of the page before it was fixed here. Among the edits was this sentence:

"Coulibaly is rumoured to hate the United States of America with the burning passion of a white hot sun."

Coulibaly, from Mali, is under fire for his controversial call on what appeared to be a potential game-winning goal by USA substitute Maurice Edu in the 86th minute. Coulibaly whistled a foul on the play, to the dismay of Team USA and coach Bob Bradley.

"I still don't know why the goal was disallowed. Nobody knows at this moment," said Bradley after the match.

Landon Donovan added: "I'm a little gutted to be honest. I don't know how they stole that last goal from us. ... I'm not sure what the call was. He (the referee) wouldn't tell us what the call was." -- Arin Karimian (Hat tip: FanHouse)

On June 18, 2010 Coulibaly took charge of the Group C match between the United States and Slovenia. After conceding two first half goals, the United States fought back to equalize and had scored an apparent third goal to take the lead; however, Coulibaly disallowed the goal which led to harsh criticism from players and sport analysts alike. [8][9][10] Commentators also expressed concern over other calls Coulibaly made in the match, such as a yellow card given to Robbie Findley for a handball that bounced off his face.[11][12][13]
