Apparently in soccer the officials can disallow a goal with no explanation. No need to call offside, no need to rule a foul let alone who it was on. The official word from the head of FIFA is that "he likes the debate that follows matches, believing that uncertainty and subjectivity boost the sport."* I guess when you have a 90 minute game where a total of seven shots are taken (i.e. England v Algeria), you need to give people something to talk about on the way home to keep them awake.

I really enjoyed past World Cups. This one has noise, crappy play, the usual flopping, bad officiating, more noise, and did I say noise? I'll keep watching because, after all, it's the World Cup. But if this is supposed to finally win me over, forget it.
