HTCH's lousy earnings are almost entirely due to low volumes (12 mil per week in Sept and Dec qtrs vs. over 15 per week in March and Jun qtrs). Their profit varies DRAMATICALLY as volumes decline and they have added substantial capacity. They did blame poor high end drive sales which clearly is an industry problem and HTCH supplies a very high percentage of high end drive suspensions. High end drives use a lot of susp per drive. They also indicated they might have lost some market share.
The real questions are how long until high end picks up, they grow into new capacity, TSA grows and becomes profitable and whether the cheap Asian currencies reduce pricing.
