I think that Obama bet the farm on health care. He really hung it out there. He won but at a horrible price. The only question about backlash is "how much" not if. I think he would have been better served to let the moratorium matter fade - after all he responded quickly and aggressively. Its just that the good judge after suitable deliberation found a few wrinkles. No big deal. Instead of jumping right back in that same ring, Obama could have commended the judge's prudence, and developed a new alternative - like putting one or two national guard troops on each rig with a few inspectors - just in case - and doubling the size and budget of his recently formed deep offshore regulatory team. You also have to consider that Obama has decided to open yet another war against the states with the suit against Arizona and the illegal immigration issue. How many states' rights battles will he pitch at once? Right or wrong, left or right, liberal or conservative, you have to acknowledge that he has developed the image of being one of the most heavy handed, federal-trumps-states, activist presidents in recent history. I would say that you would have to go back to FDR to find his equal in this regard. I would close by saying that I don't care for Obama and his ham handedness too much. I would suggest that he is giving the election to Sarah Palin, whom I like even less, which in turn only increases my dislike for Obama. Does that make sense?
