Koan, you've been quite upset lately. I agree things are dark, but there are some silver linings.
For one thing, we are almost out of Iraq. Troops are being drawn down and active combat (where US troops participate in fighting) is suppose to end in a few days. You don't read much about this in the news since it's not so exciting. But it's a big deal and all due to Obama.
I agree Afghanistan is messed up, but really, what are the options? If we unilaterally pull it we might as well be handing the place to Al Qaeda. Although it's dreadful, I think the best course is to muddle through and slowly try to build a compromise government there. Not easy or pretty or desirable, but that's the situation we inherited.
As for the oil spill, although everyone is piling on Obama, I'm just not convinced he or anyone else can wave the magic wand and fix this problem. We're dealing with an engineering and physics problem here, not a political problem, and so it will get fixed when it gets fixed. People want him to "get angry". Not his style, and it would have zero impact.
My biggest beef with Obama is that he's tried to compromise too much with the wingnuts. That was a big mistake. Those jokers don't want to help govern, they just want to destroy.
And remember, we do have our new health system. Sure, it's far from perfect (that compromise thing again), but it's far better than I could have hoped for just a few years ago. Also due to Obama.
Anyway, there are some rays of sunshine! Now let's just wait for pictures of SiouxPal's hummers. |
