In other words, we're not waiting until oil is scarce.

Look at the popularity of the Toyota Prius, for example. It may not make much economic sense (get yourself a Honda Civic for less), but there are MANY people who want to be prepared for gas going above $4/gallon again.

There is also a growing trend toward living in the city again. Living out in the suburbs isn't as hip as it used to be, especially with commutes lasting longer than an hour in all the major cities.

Meanwhile there are plenty of companies, especially in Northern California, receiving lots of venture capital toward alternative energy projects.

We'll adapt. No big deal.
