The majority of Japanese were Shinto then. Pol Pot studied at a Buddhist monastery for one year, but never claimed to be a Buddhist after. He killed Buddhists by the millions. He was anti-religion. Your "knowledge" seems pretty shallow, and suspect. You've got Google right there - try using it.
