<<<<<<<< NEWS INTC >>>>>>>>

According to the following news, besides cutting cost of Pentium chips, Intel is starting the initiative to make the PC easier to install and provide better technical support to spur sales of PC to corporate this fall. I think that SYSF is part of the Intel initiative. Microsoft will probably start the same initiative soon before the release of Window NT to the public.

There is going to be a lot of excitement for SYSF after Sep 24th.

Intel hits a new high today at 83 5/8. I think that high tech is coming back.

New Intel LANDesk Technology to Attack Business Computing Costs; Resulting Product Will Allow Easy Remote Installation of Operating Systems, Software; Demo at Intel Forum on Sept. 24

HILLSBORO, ORE.--Intel Corporation today announced the development of a new LANDesk technology for corporate computing networks that enables the remote configuration of operating systems and other software for new PC installations and upgrades.

The configuration management technology will result in a new LANDesk management solution that delivers a powerful breakthrough in the effort to reduce the support costs of connected high-performance PCs. Intel will demonstrate the new technology at the Intel Business Computing Forum in New York on Sept. 24.

Scheduled for release later this year, the new LANDesk product will enable Information Technology departments to efficiently deploy uniform desktops across an organization. The integrated hardware and software product, which will be sold by resellers, will be the most economical way for businesses to migrate to new operating systems and high-performance PCs.

The LANDesk solution enables administrators to configure new PCs without having to install software manually at each user workstation. "Managing change stands out as the most time-consuming and expensive tasks on any network. Intel is developing technology designed to ease the migration to high-performance PCs and network operating systems such as Windows NT and Windows 95," said Frank Gill, executive vice president of Intel's Internet and Communications Group.

"The resulting LANDesk product will help corporations stay on top of their changing computing environment and turn it into a strategic business advantage."

Keeping Up with Technology While Keeping Costs Down

With the new LANDesk product an IT administrator will be able to simply create and store one or more select PC configurations for the network, including the complete migration upgrade package. After the configuration(s) are defined, an authorized staff technician can then remotely download the appropriate setup to a PC workstation.

The new technology eliminates the need for an administrator to recreate configurations over and over again on each client. This advanced configuration management solution boosts productivity for the organization by quickly getting its end users operational.

The desktop configurations will be stored on the new LANDesk product along with everything needed to get an end-user up and running, including the network operating systems and client files, hardware drivers, desktop operating systems and workgroup-specific productivity suites and applications. Desktop PCs only require an easily installed Intel Service Agent to be configured using the new technology.

The simplified configuration management solution also will maximize support staff efficiency and productivity. Once a high-level administrator selects the appropriate configuration(s) and guidelines for the organization, more levels of support staff will be able to configure desktops. Businesses will be able to preserve the most skilled staff members for higher-level management functions that further reduce the total cost of business computing.

In addition, help desk related support costs will also be reduced now that technicians can become familiar with a well-defined set of select PC configurations, eliminating some of the guesswork on complex networks.

Industry Standards Based and Compatible

The new LANDesk product will integrate with the core services in the LANDesk Management Group and shared databases for software distribution, asset management, remote control, reporting and alerting.

In addition, it will use IEEE standards-based service agents for boot intervention and DHCP server features that are compatible with leading network management systems such as Microsoft Systems Management Server, Novell ManageWise, Hewlett-Packard OpenView for Windows, Digital ManageWorks and other SNMP-based management systems.

Intel will demonstrate the new technology at Intel's Business Computing Forum in New York on Sept. 24. The forum, titled "Wired for Management," will focus on solutions for the new business computing environment and feature a keynote by Intel CEO and president, Andrew S. Grove. For more information about the forum please call Jill Fennewald, Intel Corp., at 408/765-4234 or visit Intel's site on the World Wide Web at URL intel.com.

The Intel LANDesk product will be introduced later this year and will be available from Intel's network of distributors and value-added resellers.
