MS even made it part of OLE. It's called variants and supposed to be really handy since it can do autotranslation to target data types as well.

Well, we've left the language wars and now we're on to the typing wars.

Do we won't strong typing or weak typing? Well, the answer is obvious. We want strong typing except when we want weak typing. Variants resolve this indecision for us. While we want strong typing, take away the magic and listen to the complaints....
