Wind turbines come in all shapes and sizes, depending on the location.

Larger ones are usually deployed in areas where the wind isn't very strong. They can harvest more wind, but they are designed to rotate more slowly. If the wind blows too hard, brakes are applied, or else the windmill would literally spin right off of its supports.

Even then, if a bird got clipped by the tip of the blade, the force of impact would easily kill the poor creature.
