Jess, agreed, and it's worse yet. Those declining stock valuations are also used by the banks as reserve capital, in effect applying reverse leverage to the solvency problem. Because reserve requirements are miniscule, the effect is huge.

As for the effect on the US. I recommend all citizens firmly push the cheeks of their buttocks together when the bailout deal, already well developed, is presented to the public in all its splendor.
