The post I referred to said:

"...and after a gold bounce, that too will not be kind until it bottoms after a 50% retracement..."

I took that to mean a 50% retracement of the entire move from November 2008. Call the bottom just below $700 and the recent high just over $1,260 = a total move of ~$560. 50% back from there would give gold a target just under $1,000.
