DATA SNAP: Italy's June Business Confidence Almost Stable
By Chiara Vasarri and Giada Zampano
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

ROME (Dow Jones)--Italian business confidence remained almost stable in June, as views on orders and domestic demand deteriorated while expectations on inventory destocking and output improved, official figures showed Wednesday.

The business confidence index in the euro zone's third-largest economy dropped to 96.1 in June from an upwardly revised 96.4 in May, state-funded research center ISAE said. May's index was initially reported at 96.2.

Seven economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast an uptick to 96.4 from the previous May reading.

ISAE found that the companies' outlook for employment and the country's economy improved in June, as well as sentiment on exports.

Concerns over the role of China as a competitor for Italian firms in international and domestic markets rose in the same month, ISAE noted.

The ISAE survey was carried out between June 1 and June 17.
