LOL. Classic. I'm a fanatical Beatles fan. The John stories in Geoff Emerick's great book verify just how stoned John was. At one point they had to lower a mike boom to the floor for his vocal.

With respect to Van Halen, you have to listen and not "hear" the vocals. Just listen to the guitar only on the first, second, and fourth albums. Eddie was a pure genius. Forget the commercial stuff. Forget that fact that the singer was more a showman than a vocalist. Listen to the intro to, "Women in Love", the solo on, "Somebody Get Me a Doctor", the cascading outtro on, "Little Guitars", the tapped and flanged intro to, "Hear About it Later". If he had been born 200 years ago he and Mozart would have jammed and chased women together. The thing about Eddie is that his solos are ok, it was his writing that always set him miles above just about everyone else alive during his prime.
