Despite a policy of no political donations, BP has given huge sums to U.S. politicians and PACs, mostly to Republicans. BP favors the GOP even more than does the oil industry, in general, which last year gave 78% to GOP candidates and PACs and 22% to Democratic politicians and PACs. This at a time when the Dems controlled the executive and legislative branches. No wonder GOP congress people are aplogizing to BP for the $20 billion down payment our govt. is requiring from them for the disaster in the Gulf. washingtonpost.com
