Countries have to have borders, or there is no country. Would Europe be Europe if there were no boundaries?

Don't know, but since we are not actually members of the ruling elite making the many millions (billions? Trillions?) of laws that regulate our every waking moment I enjoy contemplating the possibility of minimal regulation. This is not controversial here if applied to economics, but it is when applied to social issues. In a broad sense this shows a faith in millions of people making individual choices as to what is in their best economic interest being the best path to prosperity. It is then couple with a belief that proscribing their personal lives is the best path to social harmony. I find this curious.

And I thought the short Buddha compendium was pretty good, Ayn Rands take notwithstanding. I particularly liked "In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true."

Edit: And I'm more than willing to accept that we have an unsustainable welfare system, destructive drug laws, and a porous boarder. That is reality. Just question if this is the best way to go about things. The immigration laws were different when our ancestors came here and the immigration problem was different. The drug laws were different 100 years ago and the drug problem was different. The welfare system didn't exist 100 years ago and the poverty problem was different. Not sure if different is better or worse, but the nature of the problems seems directly associated with the nature of the laws.
