So, your saying the Catholic Church embraced Copernicus? Hardly, he was condemned as a heretic and buried in an unmarked grave. Only recently was he reburied as a hero. Galileo was condemned as an "antichrist". The RC's did their best to suppress science. Monks were the ones who had time on their hands to study nature. Most everyone else, except the Aristocracy (dumbed by mercury poisoning), were scrounging around trying their best to subsist (paying fiefs to their vassals).
