I got pulled over at 1 AM last weekend going 58 in a 55 speed limit zone. I was the only driver on the road as far as I could see. Well it was marked for construction work, so the fines were doubled and the speed limit was reduced to 40mph. The cop asked me what reason I had for going nearly 60 in a 40mph zone. I couldn't think of any reason except that I wasn't paying attention to the signs, probably because I wasn't looking for flagmen or slow moving equipment at 1 AM in the morning on a Sunday night. So I just said, "I wasn't paying attention", and took my ticket without further elucidation. Aarrgh
