U.S. Accepts Equipment, Vessels from Abroad for Gulf Oil Cleanup

June 29 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. accepted equipment and vessels offered by 12 nations and international groups after finding a need for boom and skimmers to contain the BP Plc Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the State Department said today.

Japan’s offer of two high-speed skimmers and fire containment boom was accepted, the department said in an e- mailed statement. Other nations and groups that made 22 offers of assistance weren’t identified by the State Department.

The U.S. has received offers of help from 27 countries, including Belgium, Canada, China, Israel, Kenya and Qatar, and from groups including the European Maritime Safety Agency and the International Maritime Organzation.
