My thesis of the powerful secular growth element in chips due to new chip intensive devices like smart phones has taken a devastating blow. Microsoft has canceled its social networking smart phone called Kin. My fear is worldwide plans to expand foundries may have to be canceled. If Microsoft can't make it then iPhone and Android phone cancellations must also be imminent. The lack of the Kin could potentially take a full percent off GDP and is undoubtedly causing all the market weakness. Lines of thousands camping out awaiting the Kin release are reported to have evaporated leaving distraught consumers roaming the streets with blank expressions.
