Mike, Thanks. I wasn't aware that you concentrated outside of the time frame I was interested in. I would be interested in any time frame but I get the impression that there isn't much in the way of historical writings that can corroborate the actions of those historical figures that I'm interested in. It's hard enough to get the unvarnished truth about people who has lived in the past 100 years without going back that far. Here's an example of someone who fits the criteria I set and yet I'd never heard of him until less than a year ago - Claire Patterson. Had you ever heard of him before? A true social hero and successful scientist. I don't think anyone has written a book exclusively about him, but his story is mentioned, along with some other screwballs, in a book called, Prometheans in the Lab, which I intend to read this summer. amazon.com craig
