I think the straw man charge probably applies here.

I would advocate what would be considered normal control of the boarders, similar to what we have between the US and Canada, or France and Germany. I'm using the term 'open boarders' to imply an easy immigration policy COUPLED with major societal changes. I'm advocating this knowing full well that it will not happen, but to point out that there are other options than a fortified boarder similar to that between East and West Germany.

And I'm actually okay with a frickin fence, ala Gaza and Israel.

And I agree that given the messiness of humanity that we should attempt to minimize the damage. I'm concerned that the way we are going about it MAXIMIZES the damage, at least in part because people are reacting to the symptoms.

No different than a lot of things, finreg being a good current example. It's easier to LOOK LIKE one is dealing with the problem. Or the dispersants BP dumped in the Gulf, or the bail out of the auto companies. Of course I'm just conjecturing at this point because it takes time for these "solutions" to bear fruit, and maybe kicking the can down the road will work this time. It didn't work for British Leland. It didn't work for me when I was an addict. Problem? What problem? Anyway, I've typed too much. It's all academic anyway, all I can do is try to react to protect myself to the best of my ability. I'm getting better at shorting. Haven't figured out how to protect myself from Zimbabwe style inflation or gold confiscation yet should those things come to pass. I'm working on that and flabbergasted that I have to contemplate these possibilities. Indicates to me that there is something lacking in the denial approach to various and sundry problems. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
