New Condoms with teeth help fight rape at Fifa World Cup
By Jarret Morrow on June 23, 2010
The 2010 Fifa World Cup is being held in South Africa this year. At this event, a company called Rape-aXe is apparently handing out 30,000 free condoms for testing purposes. However, these are not the typical type of condom that you might be imagining. While these condoms won’t actually stop rape, the condoms themselves are designed to prevent rape or to help catch perpetrators.
Specifically, these Rape-Axe condoms feature jagged teeth inside and can actually tear up penises. To remove a Rape-aXe condom, the perpetrator will have to visit a doctor which should also help with prosecution.
The condoms which were invited by Dr Sonnet Ehlers, can be inserted by women much like a diaphragm or tampon. Dr Ehlers was apparently inspired by a patient who was a victim of rape who confided in her. The patient had reportedly told Dr. Ehlers, “”if only I had teeth down there” which lead to this design.
Dr. Ehlers told CNN:
“If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter,” It hurts; he cannot pee and walk when it’s on.”
