Global Positioning & Navigation News of November 5 reports "Sony plans to discontinue marketing its NVX-160 car navigation unit in the United States market." There was no implication in the short report that Sony was replacing its product with an upgrade. Sony is Trimble's main competition in Japan, and therefore a significant global competitor. (I believe Sony has stated that they have sold about 500,000 car nav units in Japan.) If they are pulling out of the US market, that is pretty good news.
