So much for South America's dominance in this World Cup:

... none of the five South American countries that advanced to the knockout round had beaten a higher-ranked team. No. 18 Chile, for all the rhapsodizing about its wonderful attacking mentality, only managed to beat up on No. 24 Switzerland and No. 38 Hondura ...

Other than that the article is a blend of trite opinions and flagrant falsehoods:

... That became patently obvious two years ago when Spain flamenco-ed its way to the European Championship by beating Germany and ushered in a new era of free-flowing, attacking play ...

Yeah, that's what I think of when I see Spain ... "attacking". LOL! 7 goals in 4 games - what a barrage of goals!!!

He tries hard to propagate the myth of a "new Germany". This is the same old Germany.

1. Well organized (see Zonal Marking)
2. Pass the ball without hesitation (no egos, team unity)
3. Attack the goal frequently, score a lot of goals
5. Better conditioning

I saw this stat the other day during a game:

All-Time World Cup Goals Scored / Country

210 / Brazil
203 / Germany
126 / Italy
123 / Argentina
