Well, right now the ONLY opening down to the pressurized oil/gas reserve is the single drilling bore.... (The sea floor has not eroded or opened cracks, subsurface geologic strata have not eroded / been compromised even if some of the bore's lining might have been compromised and exposed porous layers to the pressures from below....) So, (thus far!), it doesn't seem to be a "serious fracture in the earth", apart from the initial borehole....
