My first recollection of the word shan't was as a kid reading Nancy Drew using the word. Like our own Carolyn, she obviously had good breeding. I don't remember the Hardy Boys or their chums saying shan't, but then they were guys, after all.

Chums -- that's another word we don't hear so much anymore.
