Not at all, certificate of live birth is the official US
document for an American Citizen. That's all I have for
my son, who is one. I saw him coming out, he didn't fake
it. -g- I don't know if this shit has different names depending
on the State. Indicating parents
and place of Birth. The latter is the only requirement.
There is also some paper they give you at the hospital,
but it's not official, and can be simply lost as time passes.

The hospital records may exist somewhere, but, with
time, they may be difficult to get. I doubt 40-50 year
old records are kept, this was before computers. The State's
Department of Health keeps all birth records, so you can
get one if you lose it. I had to do it.

You can fake a Birth Certificate, but it is rather difficult
to fake the State's Department of Health record, which
is the ultimate proof. -g-
