Your right on the "modem" problem.

The phone line connection and performance problem is huge. Too many variables to get good throughput. Cable modems show great promise but cable systems need to be upgraded and a lot of them don't want to spend the money.

I believe the phone line (600 ohm balanced audio system) is a dead end.

I have been following AT&T's Ghz microwave link system for homes (Craig McCaws Cellular One research project) closely and that has great prospects. We are stuck in this "Great transition period".

If we can figure which one will fly we will make a LOT of money. I just wish the RBOC's would get out of the way!

Regards,

Eric
