This explains the support for Republicans who are trying to eliminate unemployment benefits.

What we need to do is offer tax credits for small businessmen to retain, hire, and retrain workers instead of giving that Welfare..., err Extended Unemployment benefits, to create a disincentive to work.

There should be welfare ONLY for those who cannot work.. Everyone else has to provide community service, or be put into a worker retraining program and steered toward gainful employment.

Will it work for everyone? No. But just giving people money to do nothing obviously won't work, despite Pelosi and Krugman declaring that these extended benefits will "create jobs".

If they won't to create jobs, lower the tax rates via tax credits for actually employing people. If labor costs are too high, then tax reductions are in order.
