Google Says Its Internet Permit Renewed by China (Update1)
By Mark Lee

July 9 (Bloomberg) -- Google Inc. said the Chinese government has renewed its Internet license, after the company submitted a revised application to meet regulations in the world’s biggest Internet market by users.

“We look forward to continuing to provide Web search and local products to our users in China,” the company said in its blog today.

Google stopped automatically redirecting users of its Chinese search service to an unfiltered Hong Kong site last month, after the company said the government objected to the practice that was adopted in March. The operator of the world’s most-used search engine earlier said in January it was no longer willing to comply with Chinese government regulations for Web sites to self-censor content.

China had more than 384 million Web users at the end of 2009, according to government data. That’s more than the population of the U.S.
