I'll grant Comet that the legal Hispanics in AZ are not in favor of the bill (polling shows approximately 2-1 against). Lots of reasons for that. Some is paranoia whipped up by the left-wing local press. Some of it is concern that illegal friends or relatives will be affected (as well they may be).

The other side of the coin from Hispanics who support the bill (and I know several) is that "we had to do it the right way, they need to do it (immigrate) the right way". Hard to argue with that, IMO.

Police (by necessity) are given discretion in a whole slew of areas in order to fulfill their jobs, to protect and serve. Do abuses occur? Sporadically, yes, because they are human and imperfect. Nonetheless it's an absolutely necessary, vital role in any civilized society. It's time we let them help as we do in enforcing gun control laws, anti-terror laws or even drug laws. Otherwise surrender and do away with borders altogether (and prepare for the consequences of THAT).
