The supposed "reason" for the markets were that they gave companies a place to raise capital, a way of rating the "value" of companies one against the other, and a place where investors could participate monetarily in the unstoppable ascent of the corporations. Thanks to the IB casino boys and their pet quants, ALL of this is out the window. What ARE the markets for anymore? Not any of that quaint old fashioned stuff. Time to close them down, chart a new path that once again BENEFITS society. Bring back old fashioned, boring, long term value investing.
