Macromedia won't confirm or deny any interest in Allen (no surprise there), but Asymetrix is apparently interested. Allen is owned by Times-Mirror, so any sale will have to go through them ... those guys don't seem to want to be wanted by anybody though. Still, throw enough bucks at the LA Times and who knows what they'll do.

What's interesting though is that if Asymetrix is able to scoop up on Allen, it would close out yet another competitor and maybe shut the door on Macromedia's CBT momentum before it really gets started. The more I think about this, the more it seems like a Macromedia acquisition might be a preemptive strike against Asymetrix's plans to rule the CBT world (I sound so dramatic).

Considering Macromedia's devotion to Director and now Web authoring, does it really want to be in the CBT business? Based on its products, it seems to want to do an awful lot ... maybe too much? Thoughts?
