Yes, you threw in some qualifiers but the tone of your message was pretty clear, i.e., many of those who don't earn a decent living in this country are unmotivated, stupid, lazy and, to top it off, "fat ass[es]...buying all kinds of crap [you] would never eat."

I don't think I missed the gist of your post; I think I got it. When you write, "...I see immigrants coming to this country of every color, race and creed and many of them are living the American dream. They work hard, they save and they make sure their kids study.." you simply reinforce that point of view. After all, if some people can overcome disadvantages and reach the American dream then it's a matter of personal choice, isn't it, and those who fail have themselves to blame?

My point was that "...our families weren't all "lazy," some of them were just caught in the fissures when the economy shifted and their jobs fell into the void...That's happening now and it's happening on a huge scale."

It must be comforting to feel that those who can't make a decent living are making a choice and that they can change that choice. My experience is that many cannot, not now, not in this economy and not in this age where intellect is the new wealth and the supply of strong backs far exceeds the demand. Ed
