On the first point, you should keep in mind that "what people have heard" bears little relationship to the facts. The US has just come through a political process in which our Democrats have lied, misrepresented and demogogued the healthcare issue...maybe more than any domestic issue in our history. It is not surprising there is confusion around the world.

As to which hospital you want to be in, Any major hospital in this country will deliver world class care. Not without fault...but better than you can get in many other countries.

Even small facilities here .. Like the Arkansas Heart Hospital in my state, deliver world class care.

As to Porter, I can only say, "beware Harvard economists". These guys often have agendas that are inconsistent with American ideals. A couple days ago I heard a great speech by another one ... David Cutler ... And it all sounded great but was totally predicated on a business model that is anathema to most Americans who would stop and consider it.
