We don't really know how many we're talking about -- a substantial portion of the 9-10% unemployed, however.

This is the equivalent of callng Obama a socialist. Its a typical GOP tactic to keep everyone in line. The only reason it may not work this time is because too many people are unemployed and can't find work.

The important point, though, is that as a matter of public policy it doesn't make sense to provide free money to those who are unemployed. Now, if you want to provide 13 weeks of benefits or even 26 weeks, that might be a time when public policy can take a back seat to compassion for persons in difficult circumstances.

As a matter of public policy, it makes perfectly good sense. Did you not hear about the marches and riots during the 1930s?

"By 1932, hunger marches and small riots were common throughout the nation."
