People have gotten too negative and are seeing the cup half empty. For a long time, we were down so low that every statistic had no choice but to point up. However, after a year of that, we got to a point where things have become more fluid and nuanced. I know its not popular to say this but Obama and Congress have worked damn hard for the past year and half. Could they have done better.......of course. But given the negative economic and political climate, I think they have done very well. And good effort doesn't usually result in failure.

For way too long, many Americans were not paying attention but now everyone is paying attention to every nuance and twist.....and that is causing perspective to be blown out of proportion and exaggerated. Economic statistics move sideways or retrace for two months......and that must mean a double dip. Employment not growing fast enough.....that must mean the stimulus wasn't big enough....or worst, businesses are afraid of the future. And yet, when I order stuff on line or try to get work done at my house, it takes twice as long as normal...that suggests demand is there but hiring hasn't caught up with demand. Fear has become the biggest factor in American life and until that diminishes, we will have these crazy ups and downs.

None of which changes the fact that things are getting better in no small part because we have a competent president at helm for a change.
