I find that hard to believe, everyone's ancestors own slave at one time or another.

I think most of us understand that he is referring to the past several centuries and only black slaves. He may have Roman ancestors who used to own people of many nationalities and races. Myself I descended from Irish and Welch and the genealogists in my family have not found any slave owners. My grandfather on my mother’s side was a sharecropper before he bought some farmland, and my grandfather on my father’s side was not much better off. But did my Welch and Irish ancestors have any slaves? More likely the Romans made slaves of them.
