Ayn Rand wrote of statism that

>>>a statist system -- whether of a communist, fascist, Nazi, socialist or 'welfare' type -- is based on the ... government's unlimited power, which means: on the rule of brute force. ... Under statism, the government is not a policeman, but a legalized criminal that holds the power to use physical force in any manner and for any purpose it pleases against legally disarmed, defenseless victims.<<<

Beautifully said. Even the most benevolent dictatorship is still a dictatorship. It can evolve insidously - for example, if the government "pays" for your healthcare, that gives it the "right" to insist that you shouldn't eat certain foods - like fried foods, or sweets.... etc.

Today, they only make speeches and "suggest" - in the future, they will demand. I can easily envision a "Saturated Fat Tax". The beauty of it is that it can be applied a number of times, on several levels - from the farm, and all the way to the burger or hot dog stand. (Maybe I shouldn't post this - someone up there may like the idea).
