I would like to recommend some reading to the thread, specifically: INSIDE INTEL by Tim Jackson, publisher Dutton. Very well written, excellent history of the Silicon Valley, and of course, Intel. The theme is very much about the brass knuckles side of the semiconductor business, played to a tee by INTC. On page 166, there is a reference to Wilf Corrigan ' who had just taken over the helm at Fairchild, and who used a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud as his company car'. Prior to buying LSI, I had done what I thought was fairly thorough research on the company but unfortunately never uncovered this little tid-bit. Would those of you who have been around longer please comment? Is Corrigan known for this kind of extravagance or is this an isolated incident or is it totally untrue? Has he continued it, if true, at LSI? There are many factors that go into a purchase decision, but my personal style is to avoid this kind of C.E.O. at all costs. Obviously my fault if true but I would very much appreciate comment by those of you familiar with the management style at LSI. I like my engineers driving Volvo's and wearing pocket protectors but in any event would like to get more information. Thank you in advance. Regards, Mike Doyle |
