derek,

I was only referring to the lack of motivation exhibited in this country towards the adoption of new train systems. This isn't meant to imply anything about motivation in any other area. There is no general hue and cry here for fast European type train systems. I wish there was. Most here don't know what they are missing.

As to the USA having the most motivated people in the world - I think that many of us are indeed highly motivated but there is still a too large segment that is unmotivated. Unfortunately, it is our govenment that, over the last 60 years, has made them unmotivated by promising to take care of them instead of letting them take care of themselves. This has become ingrained generationally in some segments.

To the extent that the highly motivated population has the opportunity to take advantage to the freedoms we enjoy here, we as a country appear highly motivated. I can't speak as to the perception of other country's motivation but I do believe that it is a function of the amount of freedom of choice present.

<Vested interests decide train is not needed? As matter of fact, billions of tax dollars have been poured in this bottomless hole. How much more do you need to decide IT is needed?>

1. What billions? 2. I believe it is needed.
