I wouldn't characterize it as a failure of the Bush Administration. I characterize it as a failure of the republican party.

I am actually registered as a Libertarian and have been since around 1990. However, I do find that most big "L" libertarians are eccentric to the point of being ineffective politically. When I vote libertarian I understand that it is a throwaway vote. But there are times wen I would rather vote for someone who believes in the US Constitution and a non-coercive government, who is going to lose, than to vote for someone whose political beliefs are personally objectionable to me.

Both the republican and democrat parties long ago stopped being about the US Constitution long ago. Many conservatives are trying to reel the republican party back in. The liberals are trying to take the democrats further away.

It will be interesting to see who wins in the long run.
