It's always been dangerous to go over the border.

My housekeeper (now an American citizen), is from Mexico and used to take a month's vacation to visit her very extensive family in Durango. She won't go to Mexico anymore nor will anyone she knows. She says it's way too dangerous, even for Mexicans. She personally knows people who have been kidnapped for ransom, even though they're poor, people who have been stopped on the highways and robbed by either the police or people posing as the police. Nobody dares go out of their homes at night.

One of the other problems they're having is getting food and other supplies to the smaller towns because nobody will drive the trucks to get the supplies to them. They're either stopped and robbed or made to pay a "tax."

My San Diego family and friends won't even go to Tijuana anymore.
