I scanned a few pages on Amazon.com's lookinside.

I laughed at the paragraph that said (as close as I can capture it): "You would think that long foot-noted scholarly tomes written by pipe-smoking academics would be reliable. Such is not the case."

That told me all I need to know, both about the writing and about the subject.

Our generation does NOT know the truth about McCarthy. All we know is that he has horns and a tail.
