Only 1 recommendation? Mine! Paul Jacobs was very good.

<Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs at D8: The Full, Uncut Video

He has the right idea on FLO too. Yes, it didn't get going well, but the final ideas he has on it are just right.

People want to have personal information, specific to them, which is what the internet provides. They also want to have their finger on the pulse to know what's going on overall in the big scheme of things. FLO can broadcast loads of stuff and each person could set their device to take the pulse of the things they want to know about.

With Mirasol, the device could remain constantly on, with a tiny part of the processing power being used, with the screen giving a rolling display of incomings including images.

With the right smarts in the phone, the phone could say "Hey, Mq - heads up. Get in the car NOW and head for the hills. I'll give turn by turn instructions. Incoming tsunami". Or, perhaps less urgent, "Hey Mq, the peleton is just rounding the Arc de Triomphe, quick, run outside, they'll be coming past in 31.41 seconds."

Good job Paul.

PS: I see Rich Bloem commented favourably: <Sag, thanks for the link to the D8 video. Everyone should watch it because it shows PJ's personality in a way that has never come across before. He even talks about why branding is not an important issue for Qualcomm for Mindy's benefit. >

But correction - Paul did NOT say branding is not important, he said he can only spend each dollar once and he prefers to spend it on engineers to make better mousetraps. He was quite excited that Snapdragon has developed a brand and not just in the Geek world. It's a LOT easier to like a brand when it's called Snapdragon than MSM8960 aka the God Chip [maybe I forgot the MSM number and it's 9860 - it's like remembering a phone book].

Mindy is right. Qualcomm needs a consumer brand so that people want to buy devices only if they are powered by Qualcomm. How to get there is the question. Paul, probably correctly, thinks it's best to get ahead in the technology and leave people to figure it out for themselves and pass the word around - "Get Snapdragon and Android. Incredible". Soon people will be clamouring for the MSM8960 or "The God Chip"...
