You saying that they prefer to forgo drawing down all the massive profits in their 401(k) plans, and their IRAs, and their pension plans... or are you saying (perhaps) that maybe their pension plans collapsed after their employer went bankrupt after years of underfunding the pension obligations... and that those 'guaranteed' profits from an always sunny American economy just so happened to have taken a machete to their retirement investment accounts?
