VM profit more than doubles, sales gain

SAN FRANCISCO(MarketWatch) - VMware Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!vmw/quotes/nls/vmw (VMW 75.30, +2.88, +3.98%) reported a 129% rise in net earnings for the second quarter on Tuesday. The company said its net income was $74.5 million, or 18 cents per share, compared to a net income of $32.5 million, or 8 cents per share, for the same quarter last year. VMware said earnings would have been $142 million, or 34 cents a share, on a non-GAAP basis. Revenue jumped 48% to $674 million from the second quarter of 2009, surpassing analyst estimates.
