I've been re-reading "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" and have been struck how Jesse describes the personalities of the Street back then. Any big move or manipulation came at the hands of some colorful trader who "swung a big line".

Now it's bots, HFT, algos and programmers.

Perhaps even more striking is that Jesse almost never mentions the Government. They must have been mighty hands-off back then.
