I am a left winger. I do not love the Dems. They just happen to be as close to left wing as we get. Their integrity is often suspect, as in the Abacam Scandal. But the Dems became the party of Civil Rights under LBJ. The GOP became the opposition to Civil Rights, though there were too many Rockefeller Republicans for the entire party to go off the deep end.

Why didn't the Dems condemn Byrd? They did. He changed and atoned for his sins. They also condemned racist Strom Thurmond. He never changed, though he fathered at least one illegitimate black daughter that we know about. Strom formed his own party and then joined with the GOP to be with his own.

Just count the votes on any Civil Rights legislation and tell me any time in your lifetime, not in The Civil War, when the GOP voted for it by a higher percentage than Dems. Sometimes the math just doesn't lie, though you would like it to.
